We are delighted to partner with the upcoming event ‘Isabelle Huppert Reads Maupassant’, a live reading by the acclaimed French actor Isabelle Huppert, featuring a selection of works by one of the defining figures of French literature, Guy de Maupassant.
The event is organised by the Cork Midsummer Festival and University College Cork.

May 2026: Alliance Française de Cork was represented by its President, Valérie David-McGonnell, and its Treasurer, Pascal Lucas, at several events:

– Cobh Harbour & Chamber 2026 President’s Gala: the guest of honour was H.E. Céline Place, Ambassador of France to Ireland. H.E. Jenny Piaget, Ambassador of Switzerland to Ireland, was also in attendance;
– 14th May ’French Day’ in Cork, organised by the Enterprise Europe Network at Cork Chamber in partnership with the Embassy of France in Ireland;
– Cork Chamber 2026 AGM: Congratulations to new Cork Chamber President, Susie Horgan, who was elected at the AGM.

On 12th May 2026, we were delighted to organise a free two-hour workshop on the writing section of the Leaving Certificate French examination.

Many thanks to everyone who attended our ’Let’s Celebrate #Brittany!’ event at Alliance Francaise de Cork this evening, as part of the official international Fête de la Bretagne programme.

Congratulations to our fantastic presenters:
– Paul Gaya, who gave a presentation on Brittany (its history and places to visit);
– Laurence Merlette, who taught attendees a Breton song in French, accompanied on guitare by Hanae Haddou;
– Anouk Hart, who taught attendees a Breton dance.

Attendees also enjoyed a selection of Breton specialties:
– Kouign-amann, prepared by Breton artisan baker Benjamin Le Bon;

– Crêpes;
– Galettes;

On 28th March 2026, Alliance Française de Cork was represented at the 2026 Cork Business of the Year Awards by its President, Valérie David-McGonnell, also Director of the Cork French Film Festival (2026 Finalist in the CBA Awards, in the Best Festival category), and AF de Cork Treasurer Pascal Lucas.

Keynote speakers included An Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Michael McGrath EU Commissioner.

Lord Mayor Cllr. Fergal Dennehy, Minister Jerry Buttimer, Deputies Seamus McGrath TD and Colm Burke TD, Cork Chamber of Commerce President Rob Horgan, MTU President Pr. Maggie Cusack, and former Minister Simon Coveney were in attendance.

Congratulations to CBA President Dave O’Brien and his Board and team for a fantastic evening.

We were delighted to organise for our AF de Cork younger students a French Easter-themed workshop with Jenna Pan Dolls on Saturday 28th March.

On 19th March, we were delighted to welcome to AF de Cork the President of the UCC French Society, Mathilde Declercq, her Vice President Sophie Peare, and several members, for a special screening of French film Délicieux.
This event was also the occasion to present two of the winners of the eloquence competition which took place during the Intervarsity event in Trinity College Dublin last February, with their prizes.
