Huguenot links with Cork by Dr. Alicia St. Leger

An illustrated lecture by Dr. Alicia St. Leger

Tuesday 8th November 2011 , 7pm at Alliance Franҫaise de Cork

This lecture will look at the history of the Huguenots and how they made an important contribution to the life of Cork since they first arrived in the late seventeenth century.  Huguenots were French Protestants whose number and power grew in the sixteenth century.  Religious persecution led to many of them fleeing France, seeking refuge in many countries including Ireland.  Some settled in Cork city and county where over the years the community were active in business, crafts and civic life.
