TCF – Test de Connaissance du Français

tcfWe are delighted to announce that Alliance Française de Cork has been nominated as an approved centre for the TCF tests devised the CIEP which are awarded by the French Ministry of Education. All our adult courses are strictly CEFR compliant(Common European Framework of Reference for language) and therefore prepare students for not only for these tests,  but also for the DELF and DALF diplomas for which we are also the long-established, CIEP-approved Cork centre. The TCF test, for non-native learners, comprises  a series of multiple-choice questions which examine the candidate’s proficiency in reading and listening comprehension, as well as in grammar. There is also an option to do a written and oral expression test. The TCF certificates are valid for two years. All candidates are assessed according to the CEFR scale from A1:1 (basic user) to C2(proficient/academic), therefore nobody fails; the result will simply show your level according to that scale. This test is particularly useful for visa applications, as well as for entry into certain universities, and for job applications. The tests are held at frequent intervals throughout the year  – the dates for the first session will be issued very soon.

The DELF and DALF diplomas are also issued by the CIEP and awarded by the French Ministry of Education. There are seven exam levels available from A1:1 (basic user) to C2(proficient/academic) level. The DELF/DALF exams comprise both listening and reading comprehension, as well as oral and written expression. DELF and DALF diplomas are awarded at each level and are valid for life. Our tutors are qualified and trained examiners for the DELF/DALF diploma exams. Because the diploma is valid for life, it is an extremely useful qualification for students wishing to attain a French-government approved and globally-recognised diploma. Therefore, the diploma ‘travels’; whether you require it for  university entry, job or visa applications .

So, whether you are a student of the Alliance Française de Cork or an external candidate, our friendly, highly-qualified and experienced team are available to help and advise you regarding the exam most appropriate to your needs and level. While these exams are an optional facility (scheduled to coincide with the end of our Autumn and Spring semesters in the case of the DELF DALF), all our courses effectively comprise a preparation for the exams themselves. Our AF Frames passport, an Alliance Française network initiative, which is issued to all adult students, permits you to follow your progression in line with the CEFR, and allows you to prepare especially for a diploma or test should you so wish.
