My work has always been inspired by water, and in particular, by the sea, however not in a strictly representational sense. What I try to convey are my own personal responses to what I am seeing, hearing and feeling.Lately these responses have dealt more with the everyday rhythms of life and its foundations, such as the chaos and disorder that lies beneath the smooth, calm surfaces.

What I try to convey are my own personal responses to what I am seeing, hearing and feeling. Lately these responses have dealt more with the everyday rhythms of life and its foundations, such as the chaos and disorder that lies beneath the smooth, calm surfaces. The point being that one cannot exist without the other, or indeed, be appreciated without the other. This extends to the actual process of painting, each painting doesn’t simply exist. They all go through a series of changes, sometimes quite drastic, to get to the finished piece. They, in a sense, have a life of their own, a life that is born out of layers of experience, emotion and reaction to life around them. – Diane Peters
