Gerrard Wyatt, a native of Cork, was born in 1967.
Wyatt, a self – taught artist is quick to acknowledge that he owes much to his upbringing. Since he first held a chunky crayon, he has been immersed in a creative world. In Wyatt’s family imagination, individualism and determination were encouraged.
Wyatt, in 1985, due to unemployment in Ireland, emigrated to London to pursue a profession that would fulfil both his passion for art and his imaginative side. During this time Wyatt began a journey in the hairdressing profession. Wyatt worked in the prestigious salon Gino Venti, qualified as a MAC Makeup Artist, and as a result participated in high profile photographic shoots and fashion shows. This experience and training in the study of the human form underpins Wyatt’s detail in the life drawings and portraiture. Wyatt’s passion for his art form never faded. During the 80s and 90s he principally worked as a commissioned artist.
Chosen to exhibit in the Tate Modern, Wyatt went on to sell his work there.
In 2004, Wyatt returned to Cork. In 2007, Wyatt’s work was exhibited in the Quay Co-Op Restaurant, Cork. In 2008, along with his partner, Wyatt opened Gorgeous by Wyatt on George’s quay – a unique chic hair boutique, none like Cork has ever seen before.
This exhibition showcases Wyatt’s Raw talent with pieces from sketches to paintings. Wyatt’s Legend pieces come from the artist’s love of the old halcyon days of Hollywood. The works in this exhibition have been inspired by the theme: the love and pain of life. The exhibition is dedicated to Wyatt’s family, especially his dad, the artist’s beloved father who died when Gerrard was seven years old. Always on my mind and forever in my heart.
