A FRENCH VIEW OF IRELAND PAR DOROTHÉE ROBERTS

May 1, 2007

A well established artist, Dorothée Roberts was born in the north of France, later moving with her family to Senlis, a medieval town north of Paris. Educated in Senlis, Chantilly, she later completed her studies at the Ecole Superieure d’Art Graphique in Paris. Dorothée first visited Ireland with her parents on a holiday in the summer of 1978 and later returned to study English. During this visit she met her future husband Lesley Roberts. Married in 1984, she now lives with her husband and their two daughters in the old family home Mount Rivers, Carrigaline, Co. Cork.

In one of the outbuildings, Dorothée has her studio where she has also given art classes for the past number of years. She also organises painting trips to France, which have proved greatly successful.

Dorothée is accomplished in all media and is equally comfortable using oils, acrylics or watercolours. She aims to create a resonance in the viewer through vibrant colours, spontaneity and texture of the medium used. The three ingredients mixed together in a balanced proportion release her creativity at its best and one can feel, looking at her work, the excitement she felt while working on the piece. Through her paintings she also wishes to convey a particular atmosphere, a memory or a charm.

She has had many successful shows in Ireland, France and other European countries. She supplies galleries throughout Ireland, and works on private commissions.
